How EXIF Metadata Remover & Privacy Guard works
The EXIF Remover creates a new image from the decoded pixels of a local photograph. Camera files can contain metadata such as capture time, device model, exposure settings, and GPS coordinates. The tool is useful when sharing a copy without carrying the original camera metadata into that copy. It does not display a parsed inventory of tags; the list in the interface describes common metadata categories rather than verified fields found in your particular file.
The implementation uses Canvas: it decodes the source, draws the pixels at their natural dimensions, and re-encodes them. PNG input produces PNG; other accepted input types produce JPEG at a 0.95 quality hint. It does not surgically delete EXIF segments while retaining original compressed bytes. JPEG output can therefore introduce another lossy encoding step, and transparent non-PNG input can lose its alpha channel. Inspect the actual generated format as well as its filename.
Rebuilding from pixels omits the original metadata record, but the browser may add new encoder metadata and the image can still reveal locations, names, or identifiers visibly. This is not an image redaction tool or an independently verified forensic sanitization process. Keep the original for archival use and inspect the downloaded copy with a metadata viewer when sharing requirements are strict. Processing occurs locally without transmitting the selected photograph.
How to use EXIF Metadata Remover & Privacy Guard
1. Choose the photograph
Select a local image you want to share as a new copy. Keep your original separately if you need capture dates, camera information, editing history, or the original compressed bytes for archival work.
2. Wait for re-encoding
The tool automatically decodes the image and creates a canvas-based output. The displayed metadata checklist is explanatory; it is not a scan report proving which tags were present in your source.
3. Download the generated copy
Save the result and check that it opens correctly. PNG input remains PNG, while other inputs are re-encoded as JPEG in this implementation. A retained filename extension may need correction when the actual output format differs from the source.
4. Review image and metadata
Look for visible private details and inspect the output with a metadata viewer if required. Removing original EXIF does not cover text printed in the image, recognizable landmarks, faces, or identifying information in the filename.

Original dimensions
The canvas uses the decoded image width and height. Preserving dimensions does not imply byte-for-byte preservation or restoration of detail already lost through compression.
One-image workflow
Load one source, wait for the generated copy, and download it. This view has no batch queue or before-and-after metadata inspector, so check multiple photographs individually.
Metadata privacy and visible information
Location and camera metadata are separate from information visible in the picture. Removing EXIF does not hide a street sign, reflection, face or document number. Inspect the exported file’s metadata and visible content; use image redaction when identifying information is part of the pixels themselves.

Frequently asked questions
Does this remove metadata without changing JPEG bytes?
No. It decodes and re-encodes the image, so JPEG output can change image detail and compression. Use a dedicated metadata-only editing workflow when preserving the original compressed image stream is essential.
Will the file contain absolutely no metadata?
The original EXIF record is not copied intentionally, but browser encoders may write new format metadata. This tool does not independently inspect every output tag. Verify the downloaded file when a strict metadata policy applies.
Are GPS coordinates always the only location information?
No. A photograph can reveal location through signs, landmarks, addresses, visible screens, or its filename. Metadata cleanup addresses one channel of information; inspect the image content and filename before sharing.
Can I clean a folder of images together?
The current interface processes one file at a time. Load and inspect each image separately, or use a dedicated batch metadata workflow for a large collection. Do not assume that checking one file validates all others.
What happens to transparency and orientation?
PNG output supports alpha, but non-PNG input is encoded as JPEG and does not retain transparency. Orientation follows the browser’s decoded image. Open the downloaded result and compare its orientation, colors, and corners with the original.
Do I need an internet connection, and are my inputs uploaded?
An internet connection is required to open tools and refresh a temporary session. Processing stays on your device; the handshake sends a random challenge, not files or text inputs. Libraries, fonts or models may download. Local processing cannot remove risks from an untrusted device or extension.
